School Holiday Movies: What’s On in Cinemas Across Australia

School holidays are the perfect time to slow down a little and enjoy simple, shared moments with the family and a trip to the cinema is one of the easiest (and most loved) ways to do just that.

As a mum who regularly plans school holiday outings with my own kids, I know how valuable it is to have go-to activities that are low-stress, weather-proof, and genuinely enjoyable for all ages. The cinema is one of those rare wins that still works for kids, tweens, teens, and parents alike.

Janine Mergler

Hi, I’m Janine Mergler - an Australian educator, publisher and mum who has spent more than a decade helping families find genuinely great things to do with kids. I hold a Bachelor of Education from QUT and have worked as a teacher, lecturer and education professional, including training educators and contributing to government education initiatives. My background in education shapes everything I create. I don’t just look for activities that keep kids busy, I look for experiences that are engaging, enriching and actually worth your time. I’m also the publisher behind five local print magazines across Brisbane and have previously owned and grown one of Australia’s leading family publications, Families Magazine. Through my work in publishing and digital media, I’ve spent years connecting families with trusted local businesses, events and experiences. But what really sets my recommendations apart is this: I personally test them. Every school holiday activity, event or venue I feature is viewed through the lens of a real parent. If it’s on this site, it’s because I believe it delivers value for families - not just in theory, but in real life. I’ve also contributed to media discussions around parenting and family life, including appearances on Channel 9, and I’m regularly sought out as a family lifestyle and education expert. This website exists to make school holidays easier for Australian parents, cutting through the noise to bring you the best ideas, places and experiences across the country.
